Sundial Park in Shchelkovo

The grand opening of the Park took place on August, 29th, 2009 on St. Seraphim Sarovsky quay in the city of Shchelkovo.

Now, three sundials are established in the Sundial park.

1. An Analemmatic sundial. (55°55'26,06" N, 37°59'44,54" E). The sundial was installed in June, 22nd, 2008 as a gift of "Shchelkovsky" holding to the city of Shchelkovo. Authors: Barchenkov D.A., Boldyrev A.M., Rykov A.V.

Description. The device represents an ellipse with the major axis of 6 m. Scale of dates and dial figure are cast of bronze. They lay on a bed made of granite stone blocks of four colours. Sundial measures local and standard time of GMT+3 zone. The device is supplied with bronze viewfinders for measuring the time and for assessing azimuth of risings and sunsets. Near the sundial, on a granite prism, bronze information board is installed. The board dimensions are 120 х 60 cm.

2. A vertical sundial on the southern wall of the temple of St Seraphim Sarovsky (55°55'26,56" N, 37°59'38,22" E) and an EoT table. The sundial was installed on June, 22nd, 2009. The sundial and the EoT table area were gifted by Boldyrev A.M. to the parish of St Seraphim Sarovsky temple.

Description. The device in the form of a semicircle is made of limestone. Diameter of the device is 1 m. Sundial measures local time at the meridian 37°59'38,22" E. Below, in the granite steps of St Seraphim Sarovsky temple leading to the southern door, the equation of time table is installed. The table is made of a copper sheet by engraving technique. Its dimensions are 30 x 45 cm.

3. Sculptural composition "The Time" with horizontal sundial. It was installed on August, 29th, 2009 (55°55'26,81" N, 37°59'36,90" E). It is a gift of "Shchelkovo" holding to the city of Shchelkovo. Sculptors: Seryozhin S.V., Erdyneev V. D. The dial was delineated and made by Boldyrev A.M.

Description. The cast of bronze sculptural composition represents a figure of an aged man and a girl, supporting a sundial. The sundial is made of brass by a method of etching. It measures local and standard time at the meridian 37°59'36,90". But measuring time the device allows to measure azimuth and sun declination. It is supplied also with a nomogram for converting local time to standard time and for estimating the time of risings, sunset, and the day length.
