This sundial commemorating the great English mathematician and clockmaker Thomas Tompion (1639-1713), is delineated for geographical co-ordinates of Moscow. On the west side of the gnomon the year of Thomas Tompion birth is etched (1639). On the east side of the gnomon the year of manufacturing of this sundial is etched (2010). It is made of 15 mm brass. Diameter is 322 mm.

Edition - unique.

Making up this instrument I aspired to achieve historical verisimilitude. Fonts, lines and other graphic elements, and also their relative positioning, close correspond to those which were characteristic for some of Thomas Tompion's devices.

In 18 century books written by Thomas Tompion served as a manual to all clock makers in England and other European countries. On a wall of Flit street in London, where his workshop was, the memorable copper board is established. "Father of English clock making" is written on it. More about Thomas Tompion you can find here.
